Adsense - or NonSense

The Fatal Flaw with Adsense

NB These comments apply to sales pages and the like, not to pages written to take advantage of the power of Adsense to generate income.

That is a valid use of Adsense and is covered on another page.

Many of us now advertise on Google Adwords. It’s a good system and it works.

Now when you set up your ad on Google Adwords you’re hoping to get

  1. the Clicks to your site
  2. followed by the sales.

And if you’ve done your job right, selected the right Keywords, got a great headline and text, then you will get what you’re hoping for.

Then along comes Google Adsense.

With Adsense you add a code to your website and you now display other ads,  usually 4, somewhere on your webpage.

Then if visitors don’t buy your stuff they may click onto one or more of these ads and you’ll get paid the Click Charge.

And that amount depends on the Cost per Click of the Keyword they searched.

Seems okay, and at least you’ll get something even if they don’t buy.

But there is a fatal flaw in this system.

The problem is that these other ads are for a similar topic, and probably similar product, to yours.

They have to be.

When people search for a Keyword they expect Google will only show them what they’re looking for.

And it seems to make sense – but from the advertisers point of view it sucks.

Picture this - I’ve just clicked onto your site, your product looks to be what I’m after and I’m just about to buy.

Then I see these other 4 ads for other products.

These look similar (or at least the ads look similar to the Google Ad which brought me to your site) so maybe I’ll click on these and see what they’ve got.

Might get a better deal!

So here’s a question for you ;

You’ve gone to the time and trouble to set-up a good Google Adwords campaign,

you’ve got the ad right and people are clicking, and they get to your Sales Page as potential buyers,

Then why on earth would you offer them, your potential customers, an alternative product - and one that you will not get paid to sell ???????

Yes, you’ll get paid for the click.

But is that what you started out to do in the first place ?

You started out trying to sell your product for a good commission, now you’re helping someone else sell theirs for “Click” money.

Does Adsense make sense to you ? It makes no sense to me to put ads for competing products on your sales page.

On "Adsense Pages" YES - sales pages NO.

Or am I not seeing things too clear. Your views would be appreciated.
